Semi-frameless glass pool fencing

A semi-frameless glass pool fence sets toughened glass panels between slim aluminium posts, usually without a top rail. It keeps most of the view of a frameless fence at a lower price, about $280–$450 per metre installed in 2026, and it copes better with lawn edges and sloping ground.

Where semi-frameless makes sense

  • Lawn and garden edges: posts are concreted straight into the ground.
  • Sloping blocks: posts make stepping the panels down a slope simpler.
  • Long runs on a budget: the cost saving grows with every metre.
  • Matching the house: powder-coated posts can match window frames.

Keep it compliant

Posts don’t change the pool rules. The barrier must still be at least 1200 mm high, have no more than 100 mm under it, and keep the outside 900 mm zone clear. Avoid adding planter boxes, horizontal rails or ledges that could become a foothold. See the NSW rules summary.

Frequently asked questions

Is semi-frameless glass fencing cheaper than frameless?

Usually, yes. Yakka Labour's October 2026 guide puts semi-frameless with aluminium posts at about $280–$450 per metre installed, against about $400–$750 for frameless on spigots.

Is semi-frameless fencing compliant in NSW?

Yes, when it meets the standard for your pool: at least 1200 mm high, no more than 100 mm under the barrier, gaps under 100 mm, a compliant self-closing gate, and a clear non-climbable zone. Posts with no climbable horizontal parts don't create footholds.

What colours do the posts come in?

Common powder-coat finishes are black, white, satin silver and monument grey. Posts can usually be matched to window frames or other aluminium on the house.
